This Thursday we all started thinking about what to do next. The girl in our group of 5 that har formed hade plans to go north and work there together with her boyfriend, that will arrive in a week from a vacation in Japan. One of the guys, Jonas, had booked himself on a surf course during the upcoming week, and the other two guys, Elia and Simon, seemed a bit unsure. We were all quite tempted to buy a buss pass at a company called “Stray”. They offer busses throughout New Zeeland, were the chauffeur is also a guide, and they take you to a lot of places that you probably wouldn’t have found otherwise, and arrange for some activities on the places you visit, that are voluntary to partake in. They also offer guaranteed accommodation at a hostel at the predetermined night stop, witch could be really good as summer and high-season are coming, and many places are fully booked, however you have to pay for the accommodation yourself. However you don’t need to stay at their chosen place if you don’t want to. The pass is valid 12 months form purchase and you can travel the same route as many times as you’d like during that time, except a certain part of the Northern Islands east coast, witch you can only do in the summer, and the region north of Auckland, that you can only travel once, as it is so short that Aucklanders would probably abuse it as weekend getaway, could you do it how many time you wanted. After talking it over with my mother, I decided to buy one of those buss passes. My original plan was to buy a campervan to both travel and live in, but the last week there haven’t been many camervans in acceptable condition, and the ones I have seen have been on the Southern Island, so I felt that buying the buss pass could be a good way to get around and at the same time get to see something’s extra. On the plus side against many other buss companies is that, if you decide to stay somewere longer than the buss, you can get on whichever buss wherever one stops, you don’t have to reenter the route in the same town you left. The biggest plus, however, was that, if you booked by the IEP office in Auckland, before October 31st, you got a 700 NZD discount. |
