Last Saturday, December 10th, I was offered a job for three days on the ferry between Picton and Wellington. I know that I was seasick the last time I travelled with the ferry, but I usually don’t have any problems, so I thought it was worth a try, at least. The people I worked with was supposed to weld something in the engine room and I was suppose to stand guard so that nothing caught on fire, but for some reason not entirely made clear to me, not the entire welding team was on board, so we who where there were put on cleaning the bilge under the various engine parts from oil, something apparently not don for several years, so it was a lot to clean up by now. Everything was good for the first day, but after sleeping on the ferry for one night I didn’t feel quite well. I slept well enough, but when I woke up I felt it in my body that the ferry had been rocking the entire night, and after only a couple of hours the second day I couldn’t take it any more. By then we were done with the oil cleaning, and forced to wait for the rest of the welding team anyway, so I could go to bed again and get some rest while the ferry travelled back to the south island from Wellington. Back in Picton I had to leave the ferry due to my seasickness, but nobody was angry with me and I told them that I was probably leaving earlier than expected, so they had time to call in another guy to take my place.
